As the Polish Foreign Ministry wrote on its internet site, the main subject discussed was the current security situation in Europe and coordination of allies' actions within NATO, the EU and OSCE.
Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Łukasz Jasina wrote that talks focused on "steps undertaken over the past few days by the international community to seek a solution to the tensions around Ukraine, caused by Russia's escalation" and that the two discussed "measures which are to follow in coming days".
During his trip to the USA, Foreign Minister Rau also met with Kurt Campbell, Coordinator for Indo-Pacific Affairs on the National Security Council. He also held a number of meetings in the US Congress.
During a public hearing at the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, Minister Rau - who is the current Chairman-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe – presented the priorities of Poland’s 2022 OSCE chairmanship.
Yet another focus of the Polish Foreign Minister's US visit was cooperation in energy security. During his talks at the US Department of State, he also emphasised issues related to Nord Stream 2 and the Three Seas Initiative.
Meanwhile Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Przydacz, who headed the Polish delegation to a session of the recently renewed Poland-U.S. Strategic Dialogue with representatives of the US Department of State and the Pentagon, said that Poland along with other countries of the region would continue efforts to increase the presence of US and NATO forces.
He informed that the meeting also discussed support for Ukraine with arms and LNG supplies, and said that talks had already started on possible sanctions for Belarus, if it allowed Russia to carry out invasion of Ukraine from its territory.
