Zbigniew Rau made the comment to reporters at a briefing in Warsaw on Thursday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Poland’s top diplomat earlier met with his Czech counterpart Jan Lipavsky.

Their talks focused on bilateral and regional matters as well as security in Central Europe, officials said.

‘Russia’s aggression against Ukraine altered the security of the entire region’

Appearing before reporters alongside his guest, Rau said: “Russia’s aggression against Ukraine has altered the security of the entire region.”

He added that he and Lipavsky “agreed that we must continue helping Ukraine to maintain independence, and we discussed how to do so.

Our Czech friends have a similar perspective on this matter and agree with our assessments,” the Polish foreign minister also said.

Rau went on to say that Poland and the Czech Republic “count on European solidarity” in the face of “the biggest refugee crisis since World War. II”

“We need help with supporting refugees [from Ukraine] and integrating them into society,” he added.

Rau also said that both Poland and the Czech Republic “have a lot to offer Ukraine when it comes to its reconstruction.”

Poland's military, humanitarian, logistic support for Ukraine

Meanwhile, Lipavsky thanked Poland “for military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, and for logistic support without which the whole world wouldn’t be able to help Ukraine as much as it does.”

Thursday was day 71 of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Poland on Thursday reported it had welcomed more than 3.16 million refugees fleeing Russia’s war on Ukraine.
