In an interview with Polish state news agency PAP, Foreign ministry spokesman Łukasz Jasina said that 11 Poles were evacuated in French and Spanish convoys. The group includes Polish diplomats and private individuals.

According to media reports, the evacuation operation is extremely difficult, as street fighting is ongoing in Khartoum, the capital of civil war-torn Sudan.

The Spanish military evacuated a group of Poles from Sudan on Sunday evening, according to sources in Spanish diplomacy and the Defense Ministry.

Sources quoted by the Europa Press news agency stated the Poles, along with a group of more than 30 Spaniards, were among 104 civilians who were airlifted from Sudanese territory to Djibouti.

The EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell said that more than 1,000 Union citizens had been evacuated from the country. “This is a complex operation, but it has been successful. I cannot give exact figures, but it is certain that more than 1,000 have been evacuated,” Borrell said.

Sudanese army first clashed with paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on April 15 as the government's plan to integrate RSF into the regular armed forces sparked disagreement among the military brass. Proposed changes to the RSF's status remain unresolved, resulting in a political dispute that has escalated into a full-blown civil war.

According to the latest estimates from the World Health Organization (WHO), at least 413 people have been killed and 3,551 wounded in Sudan over the past week.
