Such operations by the Kremlin could be aimed at diverting global attention from the ongoing war in Ukraine, Zelensky said at a press briefing on Thursday.
The Ukrainian leader highlighted the recurring crises in the Middle East, suggesting Russia's involvement with the backing of Iran, the Interfax-Ukraine news agency reported.
"This is not a new problem," Zelensky told reporters. "It’s a perpetual conflict and war, continuously reignited. It’s a mechanism that can be set in motion at any moment, and we are certain that Russia, with Iran's support, is behind the recent flare-up in the Middle East."
The Ukrainian leader urged the international community to closely monitor the Balkans.
"We have information that Russia has long-term plans for the region," Zelensky said.
"If the world remains inactive, we could see an explosion of conflict there," he cautioned.
He also pointed out signs of escalating tensions in Moldova, where he believes Russia is attempting to destabilize the political arena. He claimed that Moscow aims to challenge the legitimacy of elections and undermine the pro-European government in Moldova.
