"Sweden will donate a new military capability to strengthen Ukraine's air defense," Defence Minister Pål Jonson said in an X post on Wednesday, adding that the new package "will be the largest Swedish military aid package yet at EUR 1.16 billion."
Jonson said that Sweden would provide Ukraine with Airborne Surveillance and Control aircraft (ASC 890) to ensure "a new capability against both airborne and maritime targets" and strengthen "Ukraine's capability to identify targets at long range."
Sweden will also donate Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) and "its entire stock of armored tracked personnel carriers (PBV 302) to support the reconstruction of new Ukrainian brigades," according to Jonson.
Additionally, the new support package, Sweden's 16th since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, will include artillery ammunition and "surplus tank vehicles," Jonson announced.
Meanwhile, the Swedish Defence Research Agency will support Ukraine in establishing its own defence research institute, according to Jonson.
"Furthermore, Ukraine's command and control capability will be strengthened in the package through a donation of terminals with subscriptions for satellite communications," he said, as cited by Ukrainian state news agency Ukrinform.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.
Wednesday is day 826 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
