Extradition of Sebastian M. secured with assurances from UAE, says Polish FM

Radosław Sikorski announced that he has received assurances from the United Arab Emirates regarding the adherence to all procedures related to the extradition of Sebastian M., a suspect in a fatal accident on the A1 highway in Poland. This statement followed his meeting with his Emirati counterpart.

The Polish head of diplomacy provided updates on his meeting with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE's Foreign Minister, via social media while attending the UN General Assembly session in New York.

Polish FM highlights cooperation with UAE in extradition efforts

According to the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sikorski discussed the extradition case of the Łódź businessman Sebastian M., who is suspected of causing a September 2023 accident on the A1 highway that resulted in the deaths of of three members of a Polish family.

Sebastian M., accused of killing three people in the crash, fled to Dubai, where he was detained for a time but later obtained residency status in the country.

Poland's top diplomat stated that during his conversation with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, he supported the Justice Ministry's efforts to bring the suspect to Polish justice.

“I have received assurances from the UAE Minister that all procedures will be followed, that all documentation will be reviewed, and that while the decision ultimately rests with the court, the Emirati authorities will personally oversee this matter to ensure it does not negatively impact our relations with this friendly country,” Polish FM said in a video shared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

G20 Meeting: FM Sikorski calls for enhanced representation of Central and Eastern Europe

During his visit to the U.S., Radosław Sikorski also met with the foreign ministers of Kenya, Rwanda, Jordan, Chad, and Azerbaijan, while his previously scheduled conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi was postponed to Thursday.

In a speech during the G20 meeting organized by Brazil, the Polish head of diplomacy called for greater representation of Central and Eastern European countries in the group.
