The summit in Brussels began with a meeting of leaders from the 27 EU member states and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who presented a five-point plan for Ukraine’s victory and pushed for Kyiv’s inclusion in NATO structures.
During the meeting, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is expected to discuss the idea of setting up migration centers outside the EU, while Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk will address suspending asylum rights.
The starting point for the migration debate will be the "10-point action plan on migration," which outlines key challenges ahead of the two-day EU summit in Brussels, previously reported by Radio Poland.
The Commission President is advocating for a unified EU strategy on migrant returns, proposing the creation of specialized "return hubs" outside the EU borders (this solution currently being tested by Italy under the right-wing government of Giorgia Meloni).
Other issues on the agenda for today’s meeting of EU leaders include the Middle East crisis, the war in Ukraine, foreign affairs (particularly the situation in Georgia and Moldova), and European competitiveness.
