"From January 20 to 24 (Monday to Friday), President Duda will participate in the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland," the Polish President's Office said in a statement on Thursday, confirming that he will skip Trump’s swearing-in ceremony in Washington.
Polish ex-PM among attendees
Meanwhile, former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, who announced in mid-December that he had received an invitation from Trump, will represent Poland at the event, according to reports.
Also expected to attend are Eric Zemmour, leader of France’s far-right Reconquête party; Argentina’s President Javier Milei; Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu; and Brazil’s former President Jair Bolsonaro.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni have also received invitations, while Chinese President Xi Jinping is said to have been invited but is unlikely to appear, according to the Reuters news agency.
Trump confirmed as 47th US president
On Monday, the US Congress certified Trump's November election victory, making him the 47th president of the United States. Under the 20th Amendment to the US Constitution, his term will begin at noon on January 20 (1700 GMT).
Trump, a Republican, secured 312 votes in the Electoral College—surpassing the 270 needed to win—while his Democratic opponent Kamala Harris finished with 226. The electors formally confirmed these results in mid-December.
