Friday is a key day for the European Commission’s College of Commissioners conference, where the most important topics for the coming months of Poland’s EU Council presidency will be discussed.

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski shared a photo from the event on social media, showing European Commission Vice President Kaja Kallas, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who arrived in his hometown of Gdańsk by train from Warsaw on Thursday evening.

"The heart of Europe beats in Gdańsk today," Poland's top diplomat commented on his X (formerly Twitter) profile.

For security reasons, special precautions have been implemented throughout the city and surrounding areas during the EU leaders' meetings. Additional police patrols are in place, and a temporary ban on carrying weapons has been introduced, with violations punishable by fines or arrest.

Friday’s debate is taking place at the European Solidarity Centre. It will conclude with a joint press conference featuring European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Before that, Tusk and von der Leyen will hold a one-on-one meeting and leave a symbolic message on the "Solidarity" wall at the ECS.

The focus of EU leaders will be primarily on security, which, as Ursula von der Leyen pointed out, is expected to be "the central theme" of Poland's presidency of the EU Council, lasting until the end of June 2025.
