“For the first time ever, PKN Orlen has concluded a long-term contract for the supply of crude oil from the US,” the Polish state-run company’s CEO, Daniel Obajtek, said on social media.
“The agreement with Exxon Mobil provides for a total of around 1 million tons of crude for our refineries in Poland, the Czech Republic and Lithuania over a year. We are continuing to diversify our supply sources,” he added.
Poland has been making efforts to boost its energy security and diversify supplies while reducing its dependence on its eastern neighbour Russia.
Refineries belonging to the Orlen group currently receive crude under long-term contracts with suppliers from Saudi Arabia and Russia.
