Poland easing COVID restrictions

Poland's prime minister on Wednesday announced a loosening of COVID restrictions after a fall in new infections and deaths, promising to reopen retail outlets, museums and hotels in May.

Mateusz Morawiecki told reporters: "I daresay the worst is behind us in terms of infections."

He said there were ground for "cautious optimism” but added that the coronavirus "is still very, very dangerous."

Poland on Wednesday reported 8,895 new coronavirus infections and 636 more deaths, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,776,927 and fatalities to 66,533.
