Fitch, one of the world’s "Big Three" credit rating agencies, cited Poland's "diversified economy with a record of stable growth in recent years," coupled with "a sound macroeconomic framework."

The agency said these were balanced against "governance indicators and income levels lower than rated peers.'"

Fitch added that Poland "recorded a robust recovery of domestic demand and investment" and that it expected the country's GDP to expand 5.2 percent this year and grow 4.5 percent in 2022.

Poland’s Finance Minister Tadeusz Kościński has welcomed the rating action by Fitch, saying it confirmed the country "has navigated through the pandemic crisis very well thanks to responsible economic and fiscal policies."

The Polish economy grew 10.9 percent in the second quarter of this year, according to a flash estimate by the country’s Central Statistical Office (GUS).
