Employment, wages up in Polish firms y/y in August: stats office

Employment in Polish companies rose by 2.4 percent in August on average in year-on-year terms, the country’s statistics office reported on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, average wages in Poland's corporate sector in August increased by 12.7 percent compared with the same month a year earlier, the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.

The average gross Polish monthly wage last month was PLN 6,583.03 (EUR 1,395, USD 1,397), according to the statistical office.

The figures are for companies with more than nine employees.

Poland’s labour ministry this month estimated that the country's unemployment rate held steady at 4.9 percent in August, unchanged from July and marking the lowest level in 32 years.
