Their departure occurred shortly after the company’s board dismissed its chief executive Sam Altman.

Mądry, Pachocki, and Sidor were integral to OpenAI, previously considered a front-runner in generative artificial intelligence development. Pachocki served as the director of research, while Mądry, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, had recently joined as the head of a team focusing on risk assessment and prediction in powerful AI systems. Sidor had been a longstanding researcher at the company.

PAP news agency quoted The Information, an American technology industry-focused business publication, reporting the dismissal of OpenAI's executive director and co-founder Sam Altman, alongside another founder and CEO, Greg Brockman.

The reasons for these dismissals were not explicitly stated, but it was noted that Altman had allegedly been "not consistently honest" in his dealings with the board. This sudden change came as a surprise to both OpenAI employees and its main partner, Microsoft, which has heavily invested in the company.

Altman was a key figure in the AI industry, advocating for the development of "safe" general artificial intelligence (AGI), while openly discussing the potential catastrophic risks involved.
