According to the Polish daily Rzeczpospolita, the CEO's dismissal followed the completion of audits. As a result of the decision, Michał Fijoł's colleagues, including the company's spokesperson, were disconnected from the IT systems.

Jerzy Kurella, who had previously been appointed as a member of the board responsible for corporate affairs, has taken over as the interim CEO.

Michał Fijoł was appointed as the CEO of LOT Polish Airlines in June 2023, following his previous role in the company's board overseeing commercial affairs.

Speculation surrounding his dismissal has suggested that it might have been influenced by political power struggles within the coalition, as well as the decision to transfer LOT to the Ministry of Infrastructure.

Recently, LOT Polish Airlines announced that it had carried over 9 million passengers by the end of October, with the expected total for 2024 potentially exceeding 10.5 million passengers.
