President Rinkēvičs emphasized in Warsaw that the most important goal is for Ukraine to remain a strong state and for peace to be both just and lasting, though achieving it will be challenging.

Addressing peace negotiations, he stressed that Kyiv will decide with whom and under what terms an agreement will be made, adding that competition between EU and U.S. proposals is natural.

The politician also highlighted that Latvia, like Poland, is significantly increasing its defense spending, aiming to reach 5% of GDP by 2028.

The Latvian leader underscored Poland’s role as a key ally and strategic partner, both in military cooperation and in integrating the Baltic states into Europe’s energy grid. He also noted Poland’s contribution to Baltic security, with its air force participating in NATO’s Baltic Air Policing mission.

Rinkēvičs, during his visit to Poland, met with his Polish counterpart as well as the Speaker of the Sejm (the lower house of the Polish parliament), Szymon Hołownia.
