Microsoft Vice Chair Brad Smith wrote in a blog post that U.S. leadership in AI could be undermined if the current restrictions, imposed in January by President Joe Biden’s administration on several EU countries, remain in place.
Smith argued that denying access to advanced chips might push these nations toward rival suppliers such as China. He highlighted Poland as “a leader among partners,” noting that many U.S. companies already conduct data operations there.
Poland was among those affected by Biden’s export rules on AI‑capable chips, prompting criticism that Washington had “betrayed” a close ally.
