FAKRO initially planned to build a factory in Nowy Sącz, located in southern Poland, but after four years of bureaucratic delays, the local authorities denied the proposal. The company then turned to the US, where it found a more supportive environment.
Set to begin production in June 2025, FAKRO’s new North Carolina facility will focus on producing fire-resistant and thermal-insulated attic stairs, designed to meet US building standards. The company also noted that changing US regulations and tariffs have made local production more profitable.
FAKRO aims to strengthen its presence in the American market, utilizing both local labor and Polish expatriates. While the North Carolina facility will initially focus on attic stairs, future expansion of product lines in the US is possible, depending on market conditions.
The decision to set up in North Carolina was influenced by favorable logistics, including proximity to the Norfolk port and a business-friendly tax environment.
