If the forecast proves accurate, Poland will be the second-fastest expanding economy in the EU, alongside Hungary, whose GDP is also expected to grow 4.4 percent in 2019.

This year will see EU economies expanding by an average of 1.4 percent, followed by 1.6 percent growth in 2020, according to the commission.

The EU’s executive has maintained its forecast that Polish economic growth will decelerate to 3.6 percent next year.

Poland’s central bank on Monday forecast that the country’s economy is on track to grow 4.5 percent this year, 4.0 percent in 2020 and 3.5 percent in 2021.

Poland’s investment and development minister said last month that the Polish economy was on track to grow no less than 4.5 percent in 2019.

International rating agency Fitch recently upgraded its forecast for Poland's GDP growth this year to 4.2 percent from a previous projection of 4 percent.
