Polish GDP grew 4% in 2019: stats office

The Polish economy grew 4 percent in 2019, the country’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) said in an estimate on Wednesday.

The reading was lower than expected by analysts, Poland's PAP news agency reported.

Domestic demand increased by 3.8 percent, while investment grew by 7.8 percent in Poland last year, according to the Central Statistical Office.

The Polish economy expanded by 5.1 percent in 2018, according to the state-run statistics agency.

The European Commission in early November lowered its forecast for Polish economic growth in 2019 and 2020.

The World Bank expects Polish economic growth to slow to 3.6 percent this year.

The country’s central bank chief, Adam Glapiński, said in mid-October that the Polish economy was set to lose some of its momentum amid a global slowdown, but the country’s GDP growth would remain solid.
