The figure was in line with an earlier estimate by the country’s labour ministry.

There were around 1,026,500 people without jobs at the end of June, up from 1,011,700 a month earlier, according to the state-run statistics agency.

Poland’s Labour Minister Marlena Maląg said last month that some 5 million jobs had been saved throughout the country thanks to measures including a massive relief and stimulus package that aimed to shield the economy from the coronavirus.

A total of 41,580 people have tested positive for the coronavirus in Poland, with 1,651 deaths from the COVID-19 respiratory disease so far, public health authorities announced on Thursday.
