The figure was in line with an earlier estimate by the country’s labour ministry.

There were around 1,023,700 people without jobs across the nation at the end of September, compared with 1,028,000 a month earlier, according to the Central Statistical Office.

Labour Minister Marlena Maląg said earlier this month that the Polish labour market was stabilizing after a period of lockdown and restrictions affecting the economy amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Maląg said last month that some 6 million jobs had been saved throughout the country thanks to measures including a massive relief and stimulus package that aimed to shield the economy from the coronavirus.

Poland's jobless rate is expected to rise to 8 percent at the end of this year, from 5.2 percent at the end of 2019, under a proposed revision of the country's 2020 budget.

According to the European Union’s Eurostat statistics agency, which uses a different methodology, unemployment in Poland was a modest 3.1 percent in August, the second-lowest rate in the 27-nation bloc.
