There were around 1,019,000 people without jobs across the nation at the end of October, down by 4,700 on September, the ministry said.
The EU’s statistics agency, which uses a different methodology, reported last month that unemployment in Poland was a modest 3.1 percent in September, the second-lowest rate in the 27-nation European Union.
The Czech Republic boasted the lowest unemployment in the European Union in September, at 2.8 percent, while Malta trailed Poland in third place, with 4 percent, according to the Eurostat agency.
Amid a coronavirus epidemic that has dented the economy, Polish President Andrzej Duda last month signed into law an amended budget for this year, under which the government expects unemployment to rise to 8 percent at the end of the year, up from 5.2 percent at the end of 2019.
