The companies are planning to import energy from the Khmelnytskyi power station, located in the western part of Ukraine.

The power plant has a transmission line with Poland’s south-eastern city of Rzeszów, but it has remained closed since the 1980s, therefore it will be necessary to modernise it.

‘The import would help meet the Polish industry’s needs, as well as tone down Poland’s dependence on hydrocarbon-based sources of energy,’ oil company Orlen wrote in a statement.

The investment would not only allow Poland to diversify its energy sources, but it would also prop up Ukraine’s ravaged economy.
