The Czech Republic boasted the lowest jobless rate in the bloc in July, at 2.3 percent, while Germany and Malta were tied in third place behind Poland, each with 2.9 percent, according to the Eurostat agency.

Meanwhile, Spain had the highest seasonally-adjusted jobless rate in the EU, at 12.6 percent, while Greek unemployment was the second-highest at 11.4 percent, the agency's data showed.

Eurostat reported that the EU average for July was 6 percent, down from 6.1 percent in June.

Poland’s statistics office (GUS), which uses a different methodology, reported last week that the Polish jobless rate held steady at 4.9 percent in July, unchanged from June.
