Polish retail sales 4.2% up y/y in August: stats office

Retail sales in Poland went up by 4.2 percent in August at constant prices compared with the same month a year earlier, the country’s statistics office reported on Wednesday.

Sales of clothing and shoes increased 8.4 percent last month in year-on-year terms, and those of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics rose by 13.7 percent, the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.

Meanwhile, sales of furniture, household appliances and consumer electronics decreased 2.8 percent, and those of motor vehicles went down by 6.8 percent, according to Statistics Poland.

In terms of current prices, retail sales last month were 21.5 percent higher than in August 2021, Statistics Poland said.

In month-on-month terms, retail sales in August were 1 percent higher than in July, the statistics office also reported.
