There were around 858,700 people without jobs across the nation at the end of January, down by 68,400 from a year earlier, according to the government.
The state-run Statistics Poland agency (GUS) reported at the end of last month that the Polish jobless rate had edged up to 5.2 percent in December, from 5.1 percent in November.
Meanwhile, the European Union’s Eurostat statistics agency, which uses a different methodology, estimated at the start of this month that unemployment in Poland was a modest 2.9 percent in December, down from 3 percent in November and one of the lowest rates in the 27-nation bloc.
