Employment, wages up in Polish firms y/y in May: stats office

Employment in Polish companies rose by 0.4 percent in May on average in year-on-year terms, the country’s statistics office reported on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, average wages in Poland's corporate sector in May increased by 12.2 percent compared with the same month a year earlier, the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.

The average gross Polish monthly wage last month was PLN 7,181.67 (EUR 1,615, USD 1,765), according to the statistical office.

The figures are for companies with more than nine employees.

Family and Social Policy Minister Marlena Maląg this month estimated that Poland's unemployment rate was 5.1 percent in May, down from 5.2 percent in April.

There were around 803,600 people without jobs across the nation at the end of May, down by 18,300 from a month earlier, according to the government.
