Wojciech Bartelski, the CEO of the Warsaw Trams company (Tramwaje Warszawskie) will join the managing board of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP).
He was also named as head of the Light Rail Division. His term in these roles will span two years, according to PAP.
This marks the first time a Polish executive has held such a position within UITP.
In June, UITP’s general assembly voted Ms Renée Amilcar of Canada as the association’s first female president in its 138-year history, Warsaw Trams said.
Originally established in 1885 under the name of International Union of Tramways, UITP is a non-profit advocacy organisation that unites public transport operators, scientific institutions, and the public transport industry.
It boasts a membership of 1,900 organisations from over one hundred countries worldwide with Warsaw Trams becoming a member in 2008.
