The transaction was announced by Orlen’s CEO Daniel Obajtek on Tuesday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Orlen and Doppler Group did not disclose the value of the deal, it said.

Obajtek told reporters in Warsaw: “Today we’ve signed a deal to take over 266 stations in Austria under the brand Turmöl, which is the third-largest retail brand in this market.”

Thanks to the acquisition, Orlen will command 10 percent of Austria’s retail gasoline market, and hold a 14-percent share of its wholesale market, the Reuters news agency reported.

Obajtek said he expected the European Union’s executive Commission to approve the deal “within weeks,” according to the PAP news agency.

He added, as quoted by the Reuters news agency, that Doppler gas stations “have similar profitability to the outlets Orlen acquired from Hungary’s MOL in 2022."

The purchase of Doppler’s Turmöl network brings Orlen’s total number of gas stations to 3,422, of which 44 percent are based abroad, according to officials.

Orlen seeks to have 3,500 gas stations by the end of the decade, and to increase profits from foreign retail operations, Reuters reported.

Obajtek said Orlen also hoped to gain more than PLN 20 billion (EUR 4.5 billion) by 2032 from synergies from its mergers with Polish state-run fuel firm Grupa Lotos and state gas company PGNiG, which were completed last year.
