Polish unemployment steady at 5% in July: stats office

Unemployment in Poland held steady at 5 percent in July, unchanged from June, the country’s statistics office said on Thursday.

The reading was in line with an earlier estimate by the government.

There were around 782,400 people without jobs across the nation at the end of July, compared with 783,500 a month earlier, according to the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) office.

The state-run statistics agency reported earlier this month that employment in Polish companies rose 0.1 percent in July on average in year-on-year terms.

According to the European Union’s Eurostat statistics agency, which uses a different methodology, unemployment in Poland was a modest 2.7 percent in June, unchanged from May and one of the lowest rates in the 27-nation bloc.
