The Ministry of Family and Social Policy announced the figure via social media on Thursday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Officials wrote on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter: “The registered unemployment rate totalled 5.0 percent in August 2023, for another month in succession, according to preliminary data by the Ministry of Family and Social Policy.”

The ministry added: “It’s the lowest registered unemployment rate since August 1990.”

Regionally, the registered jobless rate varied from 2.9 percent in the Western Wielkopolskie region to 8.5 percent in the southeastern Podkarpackie province, according to officials.

According to the European Union’s Eurostat statistics agency, which uses a different methodology, unemployment in Poland was a modest 2.8 percent in July, unchanged from the previous three months and the third-lowest rate in the 27-nation European Union.
