National Bank of Poland issues commemorative banknote for Warsaw Uprising

Since early this morning, people have been queuing outside National Bank of Poland (NBP) branches to purchase a valuable new commemorative banknote.

In honor of the upcoming 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, the NBP has issued a unique banknote celebrating the Warsaw insurgents and the civilian population that supported them.

The 20 PLN banknote is priced at 140 PLN, though its market value exceeds 200 PLN on online platforms. It has been available for purchase since July 26 at all NBP regional branches and online at kolekcjoner.pl.

There is a limited print run of around 80,000 notes. Local online portals indicate that queues have formed outside NBP branches since early morning for those eager to buy this commemorative banknote.

The front of the banknote illustrates the insurgents' military feats and a symbolic depiction of the 1944 uprising, including Polish soldiers seizing the PAST-a building despite their limited weaponry.

The reverse side shows civilians praying during field Masses held mainly in Warsaw's tenement courtyards.

The Fighting Poland symbol on the banknote, commonly seen on walls and monuments in the uprising's capital, represents hope for national independence.

The next commemorative release by the NBP is set for August 7, 2024, featuring silver collector coins valued at 20 PLN from the "History of Polish Coin" series, titled "Copper Grosz of Stanisław August."
