Starlink sets were deployed to flood-affected areas to enable communication in places without network access, confirmed Polish Deputy Minister of Digitalization Michał Gramatyka.
As reported by the Polish state news agency PAP, these sets are mainly intended for facilitating communication related to evacuation and assistance, and will be used by emergency services and local authorities.
The crisis management team in Wrocław decided that a Starlink terminal will be provided to the pharmacy in Stronie Śląskie to regain access to the necessary IT systems for dispensing medications after communication was disrupted due to the flood.
The device will arrive along with a shipment of medicines. Similar support was provided to Lądek-Zdrój, which also experienced issues accessing medical supplies.
According to Radio Opole, WOPR rescuers in Nysa also received a Starlink terminal. The equipment will provide them with independent communication in challenging terrain, which is especially important during rescue operations in flooded areas.
The Starlink, provided by Greenpeace, allows for internet access independent of ground-based systems, which had been a challenge during previous flood rescue operations. The Nysa rescuers are also fundraising to replace equipment lost during rescue efforts.
