Polish retail sales 3% down y/y in September: stats office

Retail sales in Poland went down by 3 percent in September at constant prices compared with the same month a year earlier, the country’s statistics office reported on Tuesday.

Sales of motor vehicles increased by 11.2 percent in September in year-on-year terms, and those of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics rose by 5.2 percent, the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.

Meanwhile, sales of furniture, household appliances and consumer electronics went down by 8 percent, and those of clothing and shoes dropped 12.5 percent, according to Statistics Poland.

In terms of current prices, retail sales last month were 2.2 percent lower than in September 2023, Statistics Poland said.

In month-on-month terms, retail sales in September were 5.7 percent lower than in August, the statistics office also reported.
