Girl in Poland recovers from COVID-19 despite bone marrow op

A nine-year-old Polish girl with leukaemia who has undergone a bone marrow transplant has recovered from the COVID-19 disease, according to state news agency PAP.

PAP reported that the girl, named Hania, is a patient at a children's haematology clinic in the south-western Polish city of Wrocław.

She was reported to be infected with COVID-19 on April 3.

"Little Hania has now twice tested negative for the coronavirus. She is also responding very well to cancer treatment,” said Monika Kowalska, a spokeswoman for the University Clinical Hospital in Wrocław.

A total of 7,202 people have tested positive for the coronavirus in Poland, with 263 deaths from the COVID-19 disease, officials said on Tuesday afternoon.

The number of new virus cases rose by 270 from the previous day, while the death toll increased by 18, according to the Polish health ministry.
