According to latest data, there are seven cases of infection by the omicron variant of the new coronavirus in Poland, deputy health minister Waldemar Kraska was reported as saying.
The Omicron mutation is "highly contagious" and it "is spreading at an unprecedented rate," Kraska said.
Earlier on Sunday, the Polish health ministry informed about the third case of the new coronavirus variant, confirmed in "a 7-year-old girl from Gdańsk."
Poland on Sunday reported 15,976 new coronavirus infections and 70 more deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 3,958,840 and fatalities to 91,485.
A range of new coronavirus restrictions took effect across the country this week as it seeks to fend off the new, highly transmissible omicron variant.
