The Duchess on Thursday spoke to Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski, with whom she visited welcome centres for people fleeing the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

In an interview with the Polsat News TV channel, Sarah Ferguson later noted that Poland had already admitted nearly 2 million refugees from Ukraine.

“Polish people are amazing, that’s why I’m so pro-Polish, that’s why I’m here in Poland,” she said, as quoted by PAP.

The Duchess added that the Polish people’s open-arms approach to Ukrainians escaping the Russian troops was “an enormous inspiration.”

"I'm here to hear more about what is needed on the ground," she said.

Her own charity, Sarah’s Trust, has so far organised three articulated lorries with donated supplies designed to help refugees from Ukraine in Poland, news outlets reported.

“These include clothes for women, children, nappies, hand sanitisers, toiletries, torches, and non-perishable food like porridge oats,” the Duchess said.

A former wife of Queen Elizabeth’s son, Prince Andrew, Sarah Ferguson has long been involved in various charity initiatives to help children. She also has long-standing links to Poland, which she first visited in 1992.

“Poland has changed so much since I first saw it and it is an honour to be welcomed back,” she said on Thursday.

Britain’s royal family has taken part in efforts to support Ukrainians ever since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, PAP reported.

Poland on Friday reported it had admitted more than 2 million refugees fleeing the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
