A cartographer by profession, Kieniewicz was ordained a priest at the age of 69 after the death of his wife.

Kieniewicz became closely involved in the life of the Roman Catholic Church in his late 30s by entering, together with his wife, the Neocatechumenal Way movement in a Warsaw parish.

Several years later, they both started to serve as lay catechists.

The Kieniewicz couple had four children, a daughter and three sons, one of whom, Piotr, entered the Congregation of Marian Fathers and became a priest in 1993.

Upon retirement, by then a widower, Antoni Kieniewicz enrolled at the Redemptoris Mater seminary in Warsaw. He was ordained a priest in 2010.

He celebrated his first Mass with his son at his side as co-celebrant.

In the 12 years of his priesthood he served in several Warsaw parishes.

The Warsaw Archdiocese has announced that a funeral ceremony for Kieniewicz will be held on Saturday. After a Mass at the NMP Matki Kościoła church in Warsaw's Mokotów district, he will be laid to rest in the family grave at the Polish capital's Powązki cemetery.
