Speaking to the faithful gathered at St. Peter's Square for his general audience, the Pope emphasized the importance of compassion and peacemaking in times of conflict.

"Be merciful and peacemakers, supporting those who are struggling and suffering due to wars, especially Ukrainians grappling with the coming winter," Pope Francis said, addressing Polish pilgrims. "Winter in Ukraine will be very harsh. I bless you from my heart."

The Pope's appeal followed a catechesis dedicated to the fruits of the Holy Spirit. He reminded the congregation that while not everyone can be apostles or prophets within the Church, everyone is called to embody mercy, patience, and humility in the pursuit of peace.

"These fruits are the result of grace and freedom, where faith operates through love," he noted. "A precious gift of the Holy Spirit is the joy of evangelization."

Concluding the audience, Pope Francis once again urged everyone to pray for peace, highlighting the ongoing suffering caused by conflicts around the world.

Poland has been a significant supporter of Ukraine, offering aid and refuge to those affected by Russia’s war of aggression.
