In Poland, around 450 people die each year in fires. To help reduce these tragic numbers, new measures will take effect starting December 23, 2024.

From that date, smoke detectors will be required in all new buildings, while carbon monoxide detectors will be mandatory in rooms where fuels are used.

According to the new rules from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration (MSWiA), all hotels must install both smoke and carbon monoxide detectors by June 30, 2026. By January 1, 2030, these detectors will be required in all homes and apartments.

"In countries where smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are mandatory, the number of victims is significantly lower. A smoke and carbon monoxide detector is a small device that can save lives," emphasized Tomasz Siemoniak, the Minister of Internal Affairs, during his speech on Monday.
