"I went to pick them up from the airport. That’s when I found out what had happened," said the late woman's husband and father of the rising figure skating star in an interview with ABC News.

Brielle lived in Aldie, near Washington, and trained at the Northern Virginia Figure Skating Club. Despite her young age, she had already won numerous medals and awards. Just two weeks ago, she was selected for the National Development Team. She took her first steps on the ice at just 18 months old.

According to the local American newspaper The Burn, Brielle's coaches were former Swedish Olympic medalists Kalle Strid and Mikael Olaffson. The pair also coached Cory Haynos and Edward Zhou, who also perished in the crash.

The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed condolences to the victims of the disaster.
