Doctors at Rome’s Gemelli Clinic report that his heart is responding well to treatment for pneumonia.

Despite his hospitalization, the 88-year-old pontiff continues working, reviewing documents and making phone calls.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who visited him, confirmed that he remains in good spirits, alert, and has not lost his sense of humor.

Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi noted that the pope’s ability to eat, read newspapers, and receive visitors is a positive sign of recovery.

Is Pope Francis considering resignation?

The Italian newspaper La Stampa addressed speculation about a possible resignation, with Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi stating that while Francis is strong-willed enough to step down if necessary, he has no plans to do so now.

Ravasi recalled how the pope previously dismissed concerns about his mobility issues, joking that "one governs with the brain, not the knee." The article suggests that, despite his health challenges, Francis remains committed to his duties and is not currently considering resignation.
