Professor Agnieszka Szypowska, a leading diabetology consultant, emphasized that early detection of the disease is crucial for slowing its progression. Type 1 diabetes, also known as insulin-dependent diabetes, is now being diagnosed in approximately one in every 200-250 children in Poland.

Speaking at a press conference titled “Patient with Diabetes 2025” in Warsaw, she highlighted that this means pediatricians will be increasingly diagnosing this type of diabetes, further stressing the importance of early detection and timely intervention.

Poland now ranks first in Europe for the rate of increase in type 1 diabetes cases, ahead of countries like Lithuania, Romania, Macedonia, the Czech Republic, and Austria.

Specialists agree that improving early detection, even before symptoms appear, is essential for implementing preventive measures that can delay the progression of the disease in children and adolescents.
