From June 1, coronavirus tests will be available for patients who have been prescribed a course of treatment at such centres, Health Minister Łukasz Szumowski said.

The tests will indicate whether patients are clear of the COVID-19 illness before they head off for treatment.

The first coronavirus infection was confirmed by Polish authorities on March 4, while the country's first COVID-19 fatality was announced on March 12.

The government imposed a range of restrictions on daily life in order to curb the spread of the disease, some of which have now been relaxed.

A total of 19,080 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Poland, with 941 deaths from the coronavirus so far, officials said on Tuesday morning.
