For those curious about the advances of the scientific world, the festival promises a rich buffet of hundreds of public science events, the Science in Poland website reported.
Organizers of the festival emphasize the importance of investing in knowledge, stating, "not investing in science is an investment in ignorance."
The festival schedule includes a myriad of lectures, debates, exhibitions, and educational games. With a growing global concern about misinformation, one key highlight of the festival is the debate about purposeful disinformation created using Artificial Intelligence (AI). "
The University of Warsaw, one of the festival's founding partners, annually plays an active role by hosting numerous meetings, lectures, and workshops. Among the diverse topics covered this year are contemporary mass media, protein crystallization, displays of space probes, and tours of the Warsaw cyclotron and the catacombs of the Staszic Palace.
Those keen on aviation are in for a treat at the Warsaw University of Technology's Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering, where participants can test their flying skills on a realistic flight simulator.
Warsaw possesses a rich tapestry of educational institutions. Many of them, including the Warsaw Medical University, Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University, Warsaw School of Economics, Warsaw University of Life Sciences, SWPS University, and Kozminski University, are co-organizers of this annual celebration of knowledge. Employees and students from various other educational and research institutions are also expected to participate, making the festival an inclusive event for all age groups and levels of expertise.
The Science Festival serves as a testament to Poland's commitment to education and research. For many years, the festival has showcased the endeavors of scientists, their research methods and accomplishments across various disciplines - from physics and biology to philosophy and art history. The organizers focus on fostering active dialogue between the scientific community and the public, to share the latest discoveries and encourage societal support for Poland's ongoing scientific development, not least to highlight the fact that there remains a pressing need for increased funding, from both the state and private sectors.
Lectures and debates will cover an immense range of topics, from quantum computers and the intriguing concept of "Food 4.0" to gender identity, and from the responsibility of social media (or its lack) to the roots and practices of populism. Those who can't make it to Warsaw in person can still participate in selected online events, ensuring the festival's reach is more global than ever. Major debates and key program highlights will be recorded and shared on the festival's YouTube channel.
