In a trilingual message posted on his website, the Polish president said: "According to Jewish tradition, Rosh Hashanah is a time of reflection and consolation. It is a special moment when you gather with your loved ones to share your warmest wishes and greetings for the future. When you are together, you are strengthened by the best words and hope."

Duda added: "I am happy to join in these wishes. May this New Year bring much health, happiness and inner peace to the entire Jewish community in Poland.

"May it strengthen your relationships with each other and bring you spiritual comfort and encouragement. I wish you abundant strength, and every satisfaction in your personal and professional endeavours.

"Please accept my wishes for many wonderful achievements in your pursuit of what is good for the Republic of Poland.

"I wish you a sweet and happy New Year!"
