Deputy Health Minister Waldemar Kraska told private broadcaster Radio Plus that the country was experiencing a seasonal increase in respiratory infections, including a surge in COVID-19 cases.
Poland's health authorities on Wednesday reported 3,414 new COVID-19 cases and 10 deaths from the virus, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
The largest number of fresh COVID-19 cases was detected in the northeastern Podlasie region, the eastern Lubelskie province and the northern Warmińsko-Mazurskie region, according to health officials.
Kraska told Radio Plus that "the currently dominant COVID-19 mutation" produced less severe symptoms than previous variants.
Poland on Wednesday rolled out a new vaccine against COVID-19, tailored to the XBB.1.5 subvariant, state news agency PAP reported.
Health officials urged people over 60, those with reduced immunity and healthcare workers to get a dose of the jab.
