47% of those surveyed by SW Research believe that democracy standards will be higher under the leadership of Donald Tusk's government, the rp.pl website has reported.

Meanwhile, 28% anticipate a decline in the state of democracy, while some 16% think that it will remain unchanged.

9% of respondents did not provide an opinion on the matter.

"Nearly 3/5 (57%) of respondents aged over 50, and more than every second person (54%) with higher education, expect an improvement in democratic standards following the change in government," commented SW Research CEO Przemysław Wesołowski.

Nearly 6 out of 10 respondents from cities with a population of over 500,000 expect an enhancement in democracy standards, he added.

The study was conducted among users of the SW Panel online platform on January 9-10, 2024 on a group of 800 internet users above 18.

Poland appears to be now in a political turmoil since pro-EU parties won a majority in October’s election, ending eight years of nationalist rule.

The new government led by former European Council president Donald Tusk has vowed to undo the policies of the previous administration and restore the rule of law in the country.
