"On August 26, the influx of a sulfur dioxide plume over Poland, as shown on forecast maps provided by the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service, indicates elevated concentrations of this pollutant in the atmosphere at an altitude of about 1,500 meters," said Maciej Karczyński, spokesperson for the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW), in a comment to tvnmeteo.pl.
In his opinion CAMS forecasts do not anticipate dangerous levels of sulfur dioxide at ground level, in the area where people breathe.
Forecasts predict that sulfur dioxide concentrations in Poland at ground level will range from 0 to 5 µg/m³, which corresponds to the "very good" category on the Polish air quality index.
Morning measurement results confirm these forecasts, indicating low sulfur dioxide levels in northwestern Poland.
